University of Suffolk

Hours: Full-time, Permanent, 37 hours per week (1.0 FTE)
Salary: Band 5 – £37,694 to £42,254 per annum

About the Role

The University of Suffolk is looking to recruit an experienced data professional to join a small yet dynamic team dedicated to the accurate and timely submission of statutory and institutional data returns.

As the successful candidate, you will be confident in working with large and complex datasets while employing a variety of tools to extract, manipulate, and analyze data. You’ll have a keen eye for identifying issues and trends, communicating findings effectively across teams, and driving process improvements through evidence-based insights.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively to achieve collective goals. Proficiency in tools such as SQL Server (for scripting) and Excel (for data analysis) is essential, and experience within the higher education sector—particularly in relation to statutory data returns—is highly desirable.

About the Team

The Planning and Management Information team operates within the Directorate of Finance and Planning, which also includes Financial Management and Financial Operations.

This team is responsible for statutory data returns, institutional analysis, and managing the University’s Business Intelligence functionality via Power BI. Drawing on data from various University departments as well as external partners, the team is focused on verifying, transforming, and presenting data to meet both statutory requirements and user-facing BI reporting needs.

This role is one of four key posts within the team, with responsibilities ranging from advising on data collection to assessing the impact of submitted data on areas like university league tables.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking a candidate with a meticulous eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. You will thrive in collaborative environments, working alongside colleagues to meet tight deadlines while maintaining ownership of your own workload.

If you’re passionate about data, enjoy problem-solving, and want to join a supportive and close-knit team, we’d love to hear from you. For a full breakdown of the responsibilities and requirements for this role, please refer to the full job description.
