About the Role

Derby College Group (DCG) is seeking a Data Engineer to join our Reporting Team within the MIS department. Based at our Ilkeston campus, this position offers opportunities for hybrid working. The Opportunity

This role is an exciting chance to shape the way data is utilised across DCG, fostering data-driven decision-making that has a meaningful impact. As a Data Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Building and optimising a reliable “single source of truth” to ensure data accessibility, consistency, and reusability across the college.
  • Collaborating with Data Engineers, Analysts, and IT specialists to design and implement scalable data models and robust data warehousing solutions.
  • Unlocking insights from complex datasets to support smarter operations and strategic planning.

This role provides opportunities for learning and applying big data technologies and data modelling expertise, empowering you to make a tangible difference within the organisation.

About You

You excel in:

  • Database design, dimensional modeling, and modern data engineering principles.
  • Working with tools like Microsoft SQL Server or MS Fabric, writing advanced SQL queries, and managing the complete data lifecycle.
  • Navigating agile work environments, solving complex problems, and translating insights for technical and non-technical audiences alike.

Additionally, you have a good understanding of data governance and regulations such as GDPR, and a passion for delivering high-quality, scalable solutions that enable strategic, data-driven decisions for the organisation.
