University of Bath
The University of Bath’s Access and Participation Impact team is seeking an enthusiastic individual who enjoys working with data and transforming numbers into meaningful, actionable insights.
About Us
Our team focuses on supporting students from under-represented backgrounds to access higher education, with a particular emphasis on progressing to the University of Bath. We are guided by the goals outlined in the University’s Access and Participation Plan. Passionate and well-established, the team operates in a fairly informal environment while dedicating itself to fostering student success. Given the nature of our work, flexibility is key; much of our activity aligns with the school calendar, meaning events often take place in the afternoons, evenings, or weekends. Our work is diverse, spanning in-school and online activities, campus-based events, and sustained programmes designed to empower students. Additionally, we frequently collaborate with external third-sector organizations to extend our reach and impact.
About the Role
We’re looking for a Data and Evaluation Officer to play a pivotal role in evaluating the effectiveness of the University’s outreach, access, and participation initiatives. Key responsibilities include:
- Monitoring and assessing the impact of interventions, programmes, and projects tied to access and participation efforts.
- Supporting measurement of progress towards targets, goals, and objectives as detailed in the Access and Participation Plan (APP).
- Working closely with the Head of Impact to track the University’s progress against established APP milestones.
Collaboration will be a central aspect of your role, including:
- Partnering with the APP Impact Manager (Monitoring) to share insights and encourage institutional engagement.
- Working with the APP Impact Manager (Evaluation) to deliver ten core research projects that require advanced quantitative expertise. These tasks will involve cleaning, modeling, and analyzing large, complex datasets.
You’ll also provide guidance and support to colleagues across the University, particularly those in Student Recruitment and Admissions, helping them improve their data management and analytical practices. Your role will ensure evaluation activities consistently meet high standards, while assisting teams in analyzing, interpreting, and reporting findings.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- Strong expertise in data extraction and manipulation from various systems and sources.
- Advanced numeracy skills and proficiency in software tools such as Python, Stata, SPSS, R, and/or MS Excel.
- The ability to analyze student and survey data to identify trends in access and participation across the student lifecycle.
- Experience in presenting insights and reports to senior stakeholders, including the Deputy Director for Access, Recruitment, and Outreach.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools such as PowerBi to create engaging outputs tailored for different audiences.
Further Information
This is a full-time, permanent position (36.5 hours per week). The successful candidate will need to pass an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
