Swansea University

About the Role

The DATAMIND Trusted Research Environment (TRE) is a national platform designed to enable secure, privacy-preserving access to sensitive data for research and innovation across healthcare, academia, and industry. Operating within the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences at Swansea University, the programme supports data-driven research that generates meaningful, real-world impact on both mental and population health outcomes.

We are seeking a skilled, experienced, and highly organised Data Manager to support the operational delivery, governance, and ongoing enhancement of the DATAMIND TRE platform. In this role, you will collaborate with researchers, analysts, technical teams, and governance stakeholders to oversee secure data ingestion, curation, metadata management, disclosure control, user access provisioning, and data quality assurance. Your work will ensure that datasets are managed securely, adhere to legal and ethical standards, and are aligned with GDPR, NHS data management guidelines, and secure research environment principles.

This is a fixed-term position, initially funded for two years, with the potential to extend based on project funding and programme requirements, with opportunities extending through to March 2030.

What We Offer

  • Work on impactful, data-driven research projects with real-world benefits.
  • Join a collaborative, mission-focused team.
  • Flexible and hybrid working arrangements to support work-life balance.
  • Access to professional development and training opportunities.
  • Competitive salary and a generous pension scheme.
  • Generous annual leave entitlement and wellbeing support initiatives.
  • A variety of staff benefits and employee support services, exclusive to Swansea University.

Swansea University is dedicated to supporting and championing equality, diversity, and inclusion across all practices and activities. We actively promote an inclusive environment where diversity is valued, and we encourage applications from people of all protected characteristics, including age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation.

We aim to ensure everyone is valued for their skills and abilities, regardless of their background. Applications submitted in Welsh are warmly invited and will not be disadvantaged compared to those submitted in English.

Welsh Language Skills
The Welsh language requirement for this role is Level 1 – A little. This means the successful candidate should be able to:

  • Pronounce Welsh words and phrases,
  • Answer the phone bilingually (e.g., “Good morning/afternoon” in Welsh),
  • Use basic Welsh phrases, such as “thank you” or “please.”

The required Level 1 proficiency can be achieved by completing a short, 1-hour course.

As a proud bilingual institution, Swansea University supports and promotes the Welsh language in the workplace through its Welsh Language Strategy, providing opportunities for staff to engage with the language as an additional skill and gateway to cultural and social enrichment. Welsh-speaking applicants have the right to interview in Welsh, and for roles where Welsh language skills are essential, applications and interviews conducted in Welsh are anticipated.
