Job Opportunity: Digital Archivist Graduate Training Scheme

**Role Overview**
This unique program integrates direct professional experience with a sponsored postgraduate diploma. Trainees will acquire skills in editing XML metadata, evaluating legal risks, and utilizing digital curation tools, all while pursuing a Postgraduate Certificate in Archives & Records Management from Aberystwyth University.

We invite applications from graduates in any field relevant to our modern archival collections (details at https://www.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/weston/finding-resources/guide), especially those with backgrounds in STEM or Social Sciences. This entry-level role does not require previous experience; rather, we seek individuals motivated to build a career in archive management.

The position is a full-time, two-year commitment starting in early September 2024, with one afternoon each week dedicated to academic study and participation in a couple of intensive study sessions at Aberystwyth University.

We cannot consider applicants who already possess or are pursuing qualifications in Archives Administration, Information Management, Librarianship, Museum Studies, or those with significant experience or previous internships in Archives, Heritage, or Libraries.

A basic disclosure through the Disclosure and Barring Service will be a prerequisite for the hired individual due to the nature of the material handled.

**Candidate Profile**
Ideal candidates are adaptable, highly proficient with digital technology, and excel in critical thinking. Strong communication abilities, self-initiative, and teamwork are also key qualifications, along with high IT literacy.

**Employee Benefits**
– Competitive contributory pension plan
– 38 days of holiday per annum
– A range of childcare services
– Subsidies on bus travel and Season Ticket loans

More details on benefits can be found at https://hr.admin.ox.ac.uk/staff-benefits.

**Application Process**
Applicants must submit a CV (limited to 2 pages) and a completed Supporting Evidence Form through our online application platform. The form requires candidates to address each essential and desirable selection criterion with specific examples.

For role-related enquiries contact Susan Thomas, Head of Archives & Modern Manuscripts, at [email protected]. Questions regarding the application process should go to the Human Resources Recruitment team at [email protected].

**Important Dates**
Online applications must be received by 12:00 PM (BST/GMT) on Friday, May 3, 2024. Shortlisting will occur in May, with communication expected the week starting May 20, 2024. Interviews are scheduled for Tuesday, June 11, 2024.
