About the Role
We are seeking an Information Assistant to support the delivery of high-quality, customer-focused library services. This position combines direct customer-facing responsibilities with technical and administrative tasks, ensuring library services meet the needs of our Members, Fellows, RCS staff, and external researchers—both in person and remotely.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional in-person and remote customer service to library users. Duties include staffing the enquiries desk, welcoming visitors, assisting users, and responding to queries efficiently.
- Support collection management activities, such as retrieving and shelving library materials, preparing stock for binding, and maintaining accurate collection statistics.
- Perform administrative tasks such as ordering items, processing invoices, and taking minutes during meetings.
- Assist with the creation and delivery of resources like Plarr’s Lives of the Fellows.
About You
To thrive in this role, you will need:
- Qualifications: A-Levels or equivalent.
- Knowledge & Experience: A background in library and information services, with customer-facing experience.
- Customer Service Skills: Proven experience assisting customers in person and efficiently answering queries within specified service levels.
- Organisational Skills: The ability to initiate, prioritise, and manage tasks independently.
- Team Player: A collaborative mindset with a proactive attitude and the confidence to engage positively with diverse users.
- Communication: Exceptional written and spoken English, combined with strong interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and other IT tools.
- Administrative Aptitude: Strong numeracy and attention to detail across a variety of clerical tasks.
