Information Governance Officer (Technical)
We are looking for a motivated and collaborative professional to join our team as an Information Governance Officer (Technical). This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to major digital transformation programmes at the University. The role operates at the intersection of information governance, data protection, and technology.
You will be part of the Information Governance Office within the Directorate of Compliance and Risk, ensuring the integration of information governance, security, and records management into the design and rollout of digital systems. Collaborating closely with IT Services, programme teams, and technical specialists, you will help deliver secure, compliant, and fit-for-purpose digital solutions within an evolving and complex environment.
This is a Grade 7, fixed-term position for 12 months.
Your Responsibilities:
- Support major digital programmes and projects by identifying and managing information governance risks.
- Conduct Information Governance Risk Reviews (IGRRs) across systems and services.
- Assess system architectures, data flows, identity models, and access controls, and recommend proportionate mitigations.
- Collaborate with IT Services (including Security Architecture and Identity and Access Management teams) to integrate governance and security requirements.
- Provide guidance on data governance, classification, retention, and lawful processing, while contributing to governance documentation and audit evidence.
About You

Essential Criteria:
- Experience applying information governance or data protection principles in technical, digital, or system-based environments.
- A background in supporting or conducting risk assessments, Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), or assurance activities.
- Experience working within digital transformation programmes, IT systems, or identity and access management services.
- Strong analytical skills to identify information risks and propose practical, proportionate solutions.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical teams and varied stakeholders.
Desirable Criteria:
- Knowledge of data protection legislation.
- Relevant technical or professional certifications (e.g., CompTIA, BCS, IAPP, or equivalent experience).
- Experience developing structured, defensible governance or assurance documentation.
