About the Role:
The Information Technology Specialist will handle day-to-day desktop support tasks and contribute to ongoing projects as both a team member and project manager. This role involves identifying solutions, developing methodologies, and implementing them or overseeing their implementation.


Responsibilities

Procurement

  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to assess technological needs or issues.
  • Ensure compatibility of new technologies with existing systems.
  • Specify, source, and obtain quotes for hardware/software procurement.

Development

  • Partner with IT Commons to create, deploy, and maintain desktop/laptop software images.
  • Develop scripting solutions for software deployment and configuration.

Setup & Maintenance

  • Configure and deploy new or re-purposed systems for faculty, staff, and labs.
  • Install, configure, update, and upgrade software and hardware as required.
  • Diagnose and repair hardware and software malfunctions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve warranty claims for malfunctioning components.
  • Recover data from failed storage devices and cleanse systems of malware.
  • Remove and dispose of systems and peripherals deemed obsolete.
  • Support audiovisual troubleshooting tasks when necessary.

Networking

  • Triage networking issues and escalate to the Networking team if needed.
  • Address simple networking problems independently.
  • Collaborate with Networking team to solve more complex issues.

System Administration

  • Maintain software licenses (including online license management and network license deployment).
  • Manage and configure computer objects in Active Directory.
  • Communicate inventory updates to the Inventory Management team.

Management

  • Train and supervise student computer technicians.
  • Independently manage service requests and prioritize multiple tasks/projects.
  • Schedule maintenance outages alongside relevant departments.
  • Provide cross-training to ensure team-wide knowledge sharing.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related fields preferred.
  • At least three years of professional work experience beyond what’s used to satisfy the educational prerequisites.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Competency in Windows, MacOS, Linux, Android, iOS, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with college policies and procedures.
  • Experience with MS SCCM or DBMS is advantageous but not required.
