Job Title: Subject Librarian
Department: Library and Learning Services (LLS)
The Role:
As Subject Librarian, you will primarily serve as the main contact for the School of Life Sciences, Pharmacy, and Chemistry. Your responsibilities will include delivering both embedded and stand-alone information literacy sessions, as well as supporting other disciplines when required. You will assist in the selection and management of diverse resources, together with creating support materials.
You will collaborate closely with colleagues across Library and Learning Services (LLS) in activities beyond the traditional scope of a subject librarian role. LLS operates based on evidence and integrates user experience (UX) research as a core tool to inform its approach.
The Person:
Successful candidates will possess a solid understanding of the higher education landscape and the critical role libraries play within it. You should have experience with emerging information environments, digital advancements, and their implications for learning, teaching, research, and the delivery of services and resources.
You will demonstrate responsiveness to the diverse needs and challenges of users, alongside strong analytical skills to interpret data, develop subject expertise aligned to academic priorities, and employ creative problem-solving approaches. Experience in delivering information skills training is essential.
About Library and Learning Services:
Library and Learning Services (LLS) is part of the Student Directorate, which focuses on fostering a student-centric support model rooted in inclusive wellbeing, streamlined services, and the university’s ambitious Town House Strategy. LLS is defined by a dynamic identity that transcends the confines of the physical library.
Its service structure is designed to encourage collaboration, equity, and flexibility across four strategic areas:
- Learning and Teaching
- Research and Engagement
- Content and Discovery
- Scholarly Communications
While your initial focus will align with the Learning and Teaching strand, you may also be involved in broader projects or work within the other strategic areas.
Key Information:
- Contract: Part-time, permanent
- Workload: 0.7 FTE (25.9 hours per week)
- Salary: £27,584 per annum (full-time equivalent: £39,407 per year)
- Working Style: Hybrid working may be possible
