Job Details

We are seeking an organised and capable professional to join the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) as a Library Officer. In this role, you will oversee a small yet vital library service, while also managing a range of essential academic support processes.

Reporting to the Head of Academic Systems, you will manage the day-to-day activities of the ICR Library, including journal subscriptions, inter-library loans, answering user queries, and supporting library study spaces. Additionally, you will oversee several related services, such as open-access administration, postgraduate thesis submissions and examination processes, archive management, and the coordination of Freedom of Information requests.

This position is instrumental in ensuring the seamless operation of services in a highly specialised research setting. The Library Officer will work with a significant degree of autonomy, balancing process management with user support, where precision, good judgement, and timely action are essential.

Beyond maintaining the effectiveness of current services, the Library Officer will also contribute to service enhancements, including process reviews, improving responsiveness, supporting service development initiatives, and assisting within the broader Academic Systems team when needed.

This role offers the opportunity to engage with a diverse range of tasks in a supportive and collaborative environment. It is ideal for someone who thrives on combining service management, process coordination, and user support, and who is eager to ensure key academic and organisational functions are carried out efficiently.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Possesses strong numerical skills and confidence in managing budgets, expenditure, and service-related data.
  • Can communicate effectively and work collaboratively with staff, students, and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service instincts and takes a practical, proactive approach to process and service improvements.
  • Ideally has experience in higher education, library services, scholarly information management, student administration, or a related field.
