Museum Transition Manager
Starting salary: £31,236 per annum (dependent on skills and experience), with annual increments up to £37,694 per annum

An exciting opportunity awaits for a Museum Transition Manager to join the dynamic team at the Sainsbury Centre, as we prepare to mark our 50th anniversary with an ambitious transformation project.

The Sainsbury Centre is undertaking a pivotal capital project to refurbish and future-proof its iconic Grade II listed building. This transformative initiative will include architectural upgrades, infrastructure enhancements, and improvements to the visitor experience, ensuring the museum continues its innovative legacy and preserves its cultural heritage for the next 50 years.

During the building construction phase, the Sainsbury Centre aims to maintain its unique role by delivering an alternative programme of activity. This will showcase the museum’s collection in new and engaging ways, reaching wider audiences and raising the profile of the Sainsbury Centre.

As the Museum Transition Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the seamless delivery of our operations during this transitional period. You will coordinate a wide range of complex, interconnected projects, ensuring outcomes are delivered on schedule and within budget. Your responsibilities will encompass pre-closure planning, mobilisation, logistics, and delivering the innovative Museum Without Walls programme.

Acting as a key representative of the Sainsbury Centre, you will champion its needs in stakeholder forums, advocate for its interests, and step in for the Directorate when required. From project inception through to handover, you will work collaboratively with internal teams—ranging from curatorial and collections to learning, conservation, technical, and front-of-house—as well as with external partners to ensure business continuity, operational success, and a smooth transition.

We are seeking a confident and proactive professional with a proven track record in project delivery, ideally within the museum, heritage, or cultural sectors. You will excel in navigating complex environments, clearly communicating with stakeholders at all levels, and maintaining composure under pressure. You will combine meticulous attention to detail with hands-on involvement, while also demonstrating strategic thinking, operational expertise, and a collaborative mindset.
