About the Role
In this position, you will play a pivotal role in showcasing the accomplishments of the project by leveraging your expertise to engage with both internal and external stakeholders. You will actively participate in software engineering initiatives, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing within the Research Software Engineering (RSE) community at the college and beyond. Additionally, you will contribute to refining the team’s development methodologies while demonstrating outstanding communication skills to promote seamless collaboration and effective information exchange.

About You
As a Research Software Engineer at the Barts Cancer Institute (BCI), Queen Mary University of London, you will apply your professional expertise to deliver high-quality research software and databases. Your primary focus will be leading and significantly contributing to developing clinical trial software, electronic data capture systems, and databases. Working closely with the BCI technical team, you will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing tissue bank software products while promoting best practices in research software engineering.

The Barts Cancer Institute (BCI), a Cancer Research UK Centre of Excellence, is dedicated to transforming the lives of individuals affected by cancer through cutting-edge research at all levels—from the laboratory to patient care and population studies. Internationally recognized for its excellence in cancer research, BCI combines innovative basic science with the clinical expertise of scientists and clinicians from the Tissue Bank and the Barts NHS Trust, striving to improve cancer patient outcomes.

BCI hosts four local Tissue Banks: the Barts Gynae Tissue Bank, the Haemato-Oncology Study Tissue Bank, the Cancer Tissue Bank, and the Barts Pancreas Tissue Bank. Additionally, BCI is a proud partner in the CRUK City of London Major Centre alongside UCL, King’s College London, and the Francis Crick Institute, focusing on Biotherapeutics as a Centre of Excellence. Committed to advancing the careers of future cancer researchers, BCI provides extensive postgraduate training opportunities. It is one of six institutes within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (FMD) at Queen Mary University of London.
