Senior Data Engineer – Manchester Metropolitan University

To drive this exciting transformation, we are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Data Engineer to play a pivotal role. This role involves supporting, enhancing, and optimizing our current data infrastructure, data pipelines, and reporting and analytics needs across the institution.
As part of this role, you will contribute to the ongoing development of the University’s data warehousing capabilities and Power BI implementation, aligning with our modernization vision. You’ll collaborate with teams across the University, apply your expertise in data engineering, and actively participate in shaping the future of data enablement for Manchester Met.
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Data Engineer, you will:
- Collaborate with fellow data engineers to design, develop, and optimize the University’s data ingestion pipelines and maintain high-performing platforms.
- Design, develop, test, and manage data pipelines to support the University’s institutional data warehouse, enabling enhanced reporting, insights, and advanced analytics.
- Partner with colleagues across the Analytics Team, Software Engineering, and IT & Digital, as well as stakeholders across the University, to deliver secure, scalable, and impactful data solutions.
- Champion best practices in data design, governance, security, and automation.
- Work with existing Microsoft and Oracle solutions, ensuring seamless service delivery while contributing to the development of future data solutions.
Ideal Candidate Profile
We’re looking for someone who brings the following expertise and qualities:
- Proven Experience: Demonstrable experience in designing and managing data warehousing platforms, data pipelines, and optimizing data ingestion processes, with a focus on quality and scalability.
- Technical Proficiency: Expertise in Microsoft Azure services, including Azure Data Lake, Synapse Analytics, Azure SQL, and Azure Data Factory (ADF).
- Modern Data Architecture Knowledge: Solid understanding of modern data architecture, including data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, and supporting advanced analytics and AI workloads.
- Quality-Focused: A commitment to meeting high-quality standards through proper documentation, quality control, and thorough testing.
- Collaboration & Communication: Outstanding communication and teamwork skills, enabling effective engagement with technical teams, stakeholders, and institutional customers to deliver impactful and data-driven solutions.
