Manchester Metropolitan University: Unlocking the Power of Data

Manchester Metropolitan University is dedicated to maximizing the potential of its data, both by modernizing platforms and making the most of existing systems. As part of this exciting transformation, we are seeking a skilled and accomplished Senior Data Engineer to play a pivotal role in managing and enhancing our data infrastructure and pipelines. You will be instrumental in ensuring the availability of high-quality data for reporting, analysis, and institutional decision-making.

In this role, you will contribute to the design, delivery, and optimization of the University’s data warehousing capabilities and collaborate on the modernization of platforms, including Power BI. Additionally, you will work closely with diverse teams across the institution, applying your data engineering expertise while shaping the future of data enablement.


About the Role

As a Senior Data Engineer at Manchester Metropolitan University, you will:

  • Work collaboratively with data engineers to design, develop, and optimize data ingestion pipelines while maintaining efficient platform performance.
  • Lead the design, testing, implementation, and management of data pipelines for the University’s institutional data warehouse, enabling enhanced reporting, insight generation, and advanced analytics.
  • Partner with analytics team members, software engineers, IT & Digital teams, and University stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performing data solutions.
  • Advocate best practices for data governance, security, design, and automation.
  • Support current Microsoft and Oracle solutions to maintain service delivery while contributing to the University’s future data strategies.

About You

We are seeking candidates who bring:

  • Extensive data expertise: Proven experience designing and managing data warehousing platforms and ingestion pipelines with a focus on quality-driven outcomes. Familiarity with Microsoft Azure services, such as Azure Data Lake, Synapse Analytics, Azure SQL, and Azure Data Factory (ADF), is essential.
  • Modern data architecture knowledge: A strong foundation in data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, and enabling advanced analytics and AI workloads.
  • Commitment to excellence: Dedication to producing well-documented, tested, and quality-controlled outputs aligned with the University’s high standards.
  • Exceptional communication skills: The ability to effectively engage with technical colleagues and stakeholders, understanding complex requirements and delivering impactful solutions.
