Job Opportunity: Senior Data Manager at the University of Oxford

Position Details:
This is a full-time role (100% FTE) for a fixed-term duration of 31 months, starting on 1st July 2026. A part-time arrangement (minimum 70% FTE) may also be considered.

The Botnar Institute for Musculoskeletal Sciences fosters cutting-edge research and education into musculoskeletal disease causes and treatments, providing state-of-the-art facilities for researchers worldwide.

The Experimental Medicine and Rheumatology (EMR) trials group, led by Professor Laura Coates and collaborating with OCTRU, manages a rapidly growing portfolio of clinical trials in rheumatology and musculoskeletal conditions. This team, led operationally by Dr Anne Francis, includes Trial Managers, Trial Coordinators, and administrative staff.


About the Role:
We are seeking a Senior Data Manager to take a leading role in managing the data-related aspects of clinical trials within the EMR trials group. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to contribute expertise in clinical trial data management.

In this position, you will:

  • Oversee data management across all EMR trials throughout their lifecycle, ensuring compliance with high standards.
  • Collaborate with Chief Investigators, Trial Management Teams, Database Programmers, Statisticians, and other professionals to design case report forms (CRFs) and data matrices for capturing trial data.
  • Lead the design, creation (as needed), testing, and maintenance of trial-specific clinical databases and other required systems.
  • Develop essential documentation such as data management plans and input into trial protocols.
  • Provide training and guidance on data management best practices to the team.

About You:
The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in IT or life sciences or possess equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrate substantial experience in clinical research data management, including expertise in electronic data capture systems.
  • Have a sound understanding of good data management principles and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) requirements in the UK.
  • Be proficient in the design, maintenance, and analysis of relational databases.
  • Possess a comprehensive knowledge of the clinical trial lifecycle, specifically in UK clinical research structures, regulatory frameworks, ethical guidelines, governance systems, and data protection regulations.
