Role Overview

As a critical member of the IT Commercial and Portfolio Team, your primary responsibility will be to define and lead the delivery of major projects aligned with the University’s strategic goals and objectives. You will work closely with stakeholders, including members of the Senior Leadership Group, to shape and refine project specifications and manage all stages of the project life cycle. Key responsibilities include developing project budgets, creating robust delivery plans, and ensuring effective execution of IT initiatives within the University’s portfolio.

Reporting directly to the IT Project Team Manager and collaborating with the Head of IT Commercial and Portfolio Management, you will oversee major projects that facilitate transformational changes to organizational practices. Your work will emphasize continuous service improvement to ensure the delivery of high-quality IT services that benefit staff and students alike. The University has adopted a Cloud Smart strategy, prioritizing cloud-based solutions and SaaS products for technical and digital services.

As a Senior IT Project Manager, your role will also involve fostering strong stakeholder engagement across the University and externally, ensuring alignment, involvement, and support for each project. This includes coordination with third-party vendors and technical subject matter experts to deliver solutions that are cost-effective, adaptable, and offer maximum flexibility. Additionally, you will work closely with the IT Portfolio PMO to adhere to governance processes and may collaborate on strategic initiatives alongside the Strategic Projects Office to provide technical support for key priorities.


Requirements: Background and Experience

We are seeking a candidate with substantial knowledge, expertise, and experience in the following areas:

  • Enterprise Applications: Significant experience in delivering large-scale business solutions, such as Student Information Systems or ERP platforms, with a clear focus on driving organizational change.
  • IT Project Leadership: Strong track record of leading complex IT projects, with proven expertise in project planning, risk management, and ensuring successful outcomes in multifaceted environments.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Demonstrated ability to build effective and collaborative relationships with colleagues across IT Services as well as the wider University community, whether in a traditional or matrixed structure.
  • Multitasking and Prioritization: Extensive experience in managing multiple priorities simultaneously, meeting budgetary and timeline requirements, and communicating with clarity to drive successful delivery in alignment with ITS objectives.
  • Public Sector Procurement (Desirable): Familiarity with public sector procurement frameworks and processes is a valuable asset.

Additional Information

  • Salary: Starting at £50,160 per annum.
