Join Us as a Specialist Technician: Bridging Code and Physical Interaction
Are you excited by the fusion of screen-based coding and hands-on physical interaction? We are looking for a talented and adaptable Specialist Technician to empower our students to connect web interfaces with hardware and mechatronics. In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with the Physical Computing Technician to guide students in creating dynamic, connected projects that incorporate AI, generative visuals, and electronics. You’ll play a key role in teaching students to instruct code to move real-world objects—and vice versa.
What You’ll Do
You’ll lead technical workshops that integrate web technologies with hardware components, helping students develop the skills and confidence to bring their ideas to life. Your mentorship will include advising on project architecture, facilitating the flow of data between microcontrollers, servers, and front-end interfaces. Beyond teaching, you’ll work hand-in-hand with colleagues across our Digital, Biology, and 3D Make spaces to ensure seamless communication between software and hardware. You’ll also be responsible for maintaining a safe and creative lab environment for everyone.
About You
We’re searching for a candidate with expertise in JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3, and experience using creative coding libraries like p5.js or Three.js. Hands-on knowledge of platforms such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or ESP32 is essential, as well as a strong understanding of actuators, sensors, and AI principles. If you enjoy solving technical challenges that blend the virtual with the physical, we’d love to hear from you!
We’re committed to bringing in team members with diverse experiences and perspectives. If you’re unsure whether you meet every requirement, we encourage you to apply and share your broader strengths and transferable skills. The best candidate for the role will be selected with inclusivity and potential in mind.
