Canterbury Christ Church University is looking for an experienced and proactive Technical Manager (Hydra) to oversee the operation, development, and promotion of the Hydra Simulation Suite. About the Role
As the Technical Manager (Hydra), you will take charge of both the daily operations and the strategic development of the Hydra Suite. Your role will ensure the upkeep of high standards for facilities, equipment, and technical services. Collaborating closely with academic staff, technical teams, students, and external partners, you will ensure the effective use of the suite for teaching, simulation-based learning, and research.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate technical support for teaching, research, and knowledge exchange activities within the Hydra Suite.
- Manage the daily operations, maintenance, repair, and renewal of specialist simulation equipment.
- Work alongside academics, timetabling teams, and administrators to plan and deliver practical teaching sessions.
- Offer specialist advice and technical input to support the development of teaching materials, research, and practical classes.
- Lead the promotion and growth of the Hydra Suite, including identifying opportunities to expand its use and pioneer innovative applications.
- Train, support, and guide students, staff, and other users in effective simulation techniques.
- Develop, review, and implement risk assessments, operational guidance, and standard operating procedures.
- Provide strategic leadership and prioritization for all technical activities, ensuring efficient use of resources.
- Drive improvements to technical services, facilities, and operational processes to maintain service excellence.
Having Associate Fellowship or Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy is desirable but not essential.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- Extensive technical expertise: Previous experience in a senior technical management or support role.
- Specialist knowledge of Hydra Simulation systems: Proven practical use in teaching, research, or professional practice settings.
- Resource management: Experience managing technical services, facilities, or resources in a complex environment.
- Strong organizational skills: Capable of balancing competing priorities, ongoing projects, and tight deadlines.
- Effective communication: Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build solid working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Support capability: Experience in delivering training, guidance, and user support effectively.
- Independent decision-making: A self-motivated professional who exercises sound judgment and remains solutions-oriented.
- Higher Education or similar experience: Although not essential, a background in educational environments is advantageous.
Experience or recognition through membership of a professional body or the Higher Education Academy is desirable.
