About RCSI Library
RCSI Library is Ireland’s only dedicated academic health sciences library service, playing an integral role in supporting the learning, teaching, research, and clinical mission of RCSI. Since its founding in 1784, RCSI has been instrumental in advancing medicine and surgery in Ireland, and the library has preserved and curated its rich history.
The library team, comprising librarians, archivists, and data specialists, offers a comprehensive suite of services, including:
- Curriculum-embedded research and information skills training, as well as AI literacy instruction.
- Support for research data management planning and open access publishing.
- Advanced literature searching and inquiry services.
- Guidance on copyright and content licensing.
- Online and onsite heritage exhibitions, outreach initiatives, and fact-checking services.

About the Role
RCSI is inviting applications for the prestigious position of University Librarian and Director of Library Services. This is a senior and permanent leadership role within RCSI, reporting directly to the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
This pivotal position will lead the strategic vision, innovation, and delivery of library services, collections, and infrastructure to underpin RCSI’s undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional education programmes. The successful candidate will champion RCSI’s translational research priorities and oversee the care and development of its heritage collections.
The ideal candidate will:
- Possess extensive senior leadership experience in a university or health sciences library of similar scale.
- Have a deep understanding of the role and contribution of libraries in academic and clinical health sciences environments.
- Be a strategic, tactical, and creative thinker, with proven ability to drive innovation and manage change.
- Demonstrate an ambitious vision for the future of RCSI Library services, particularly in the context of AI advancements and the evolving strategic role of university libraries within institutional frameworks.
